It has been a sad week for Cagayan de Oro because we have experienced a terrifying flashflood last Saturday. Many have lost their homes, their properties and some have even lost their loved ones. It was one of the most horrifying experiences for most people in our city because almost everyone ran for their lives just to escape the surging current of the flood.

I have watched the news recently and I have learned that many people who have lost their loved ones cannot seem to accept the tragic experience they had last Friday. Some people do not want to talk and they just cried their hearts out. Some people have this feeling of sadness and loneliness on their faces.

Since we do not have depression rehab treatment centers here in our city, a group of Psychology graduates have volunteered themselves to provide counseling to these people. I hope their efforts will truly help those people so they can move on from their sad experience. Feeling better takes time but it’s good to know there are people who assist these individuals to make positive choices in life.

A few decades ago, a person who aspires to finish a degree in the university would have to relocate to where he or she is to study and spend a few years studying full time. Sadly, not all people would have that much time and opportunity. Stay-at-home moms and working people would have to say goodbye to their dream degrees.

Isn’t it amazing how people can have the opportunity to study these days? Full time employees, stay-at home moms and even people aspiring for a degree from other parts of the world could even finish a degree with online bachelor degree programs , and pursue their dream of earning a degree they have always wanted, in universities where they want to finish it at.

Although I am already teaching and have finished my degree, it is still my desire to finish post graduate studies. Thankfully, I am not that far from reaching my dream!
